Performer 2016
In
July 2016 I performed at the Mid-Winter Festival at Huonville, Tasmania. This
required improvisational performance as a part of a team of actors “in a tent”.
This up close and personal style of performance requires strong observational
ability and quick thought processes. This type of festival improvisation on
demand has a constant stream of general public walking through the performance
spaces. The audience included individuals and families with small children who
are sometimes unsupervised. It requires a high level of emotional intelligence
to be able to ‘read’ the audience and tailor a performance to suit various
audiences and their emotions. I am highly skilled at this type of performance
work. Director - Annie Lee (Kransky Sisters)

Performances
by Young People in Care - at the 1999 International Foster Carers Conference
Melbourne University and Fundraising event for the Create Foundation Randwick
Sydney.
At
this time, I was undertaking post-graduate media study at QUT. I used this
opportunity to investigate how “orphans’ were portrayed in film and literature
including Annie, Oliver, Moses, Snow White, Cinderella and Anastasia. I drafted
this research into a paper “Teletubbies to Truman, the panopticonism of orphans
in the media”. In the document I identified common themes and symbols used in
storytelling about orphans, both traditionally and in contemporary media. This
document was the framework that informed the development of the A Team
production for the International Foster care Conference and at a major
fundraising event for the organization in Sydney.
The
premise of the performance was reforming our ‘baggage’ into a staircase and
working together to reach higher places. We used old suitcases as the steps on
a staircase to symbolize how using what we have, we can get to where we choose to
go.
