Curriculum Vitae

Sharon Hanson

Born in 1959, Sharon grew up in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, before moving to the Whitsundays in far north Queensland in 1982, where she became one of the first female deckhands and an accomplished skydiver. Relocating back to Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs in 1988, she joined the Waverley Woollahra Arts Centre, learning various printmaking techniques and entering the prestigious annual Waverley Woollahra Art Prize competition.  One of a group of 6 artists, in 1995 she first exhibited her work at the Bondi Pavilion Gallery (“Flesh Food”), and then in 1996 at the Michael Commerford Gallery in Rushcutters Bay (“Body”).
Later that year Sharon married and in 1997 moved with her husband to Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, where she joined the Coolum Art Group, selling her smaller works at the local art market, entering the annual Coolum Art Show, and exhibiting at Traders Coolum, as well as other local shows and competitions, such as the Noosa Hot Chilli Festival and Giada Eumundi.
Early 2005 saw a return to Sydney as a single parent with her young daughter.  While she continued to paint and create prints, predominantly nudes with a foray into abstract and nature-inspired dry-points, time for creating art was limited.
During recovering from breast cancer surgery in early 2015, Sharon developed a new signature style, using bright, vibrant colours outlined in black, and always featuring gold, in a celebration of life.  While still occasionally painting nudes, her subject matter has become more focused on stylized portraits, and with detailed story-telling pieces.
Since moving to Karana Downs, Queensland, in early 2017, Sharon has been inspired by the beautiful surrounds, and has always included colourful flora in her paintings of strong, serene women. She sells her smaller pieces at local markets in Karana Downs and Ipswich, and has entered a number of art competitions, including the Brookfield Art Show and the Foot Square Competition at the Aspire Gallery in Paddington.  Sharon has also exhibited her works at various venues, including Entangled at the Dayboro Butter Factory, the Aspire Gallery, Art Time Ipswich and the Salon Des Refuses at Arts Alive Ipswich.
